How did you get involved in CrossFit?
I think I saw some videos online and thought that could be something for me. Sometime after that my brother showed me a video from CrossFit Games and said that could be something for me. I searched online for CrossFit affiliates near Leicester around January 2012 and found nothing. Then, even more determined, I googled it again in July 2012, this time was even prepared to commute, but… there was no need as I found CrossFit Leicester! No wonder I couldn’t find anything back in January, CrossFit Leicester opened in May 2012. Had I known about it earlier, I would have been one of the first members!

First WOD?
It was my taster. I know for certain we had ring pull-ups 5×5 for strength. I wasn’t too good, but pushed myself and… ended up with my arms so sore and swollen for around a week afterwards that I couldn’t even straighten my elbows properly…
Also clearly remember SDHP in Metcon… Your question actually made me look it up, it was:

The photo of the whiteboard with the result says that I started at 20kg, but then had to take it down to 15kg. Really?! I progressed a lot since then!!!

When did you start coming to CrossFit Leicester?
I just looked it up for the previous question, so can give you an exact answer: I did my first WOD on Wednesday, 4th of July 2012.

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at/how long have you been CrossFitting for?
Yes, it is the first and so far the only CrossFit I worked out at. It will be approximately half a year now.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
I think I knew it for certain right after my first session. Well, I had actually been wanting to try it ages before then, but after my first WOD, all I wanted to do was to complete my On Ramp as soon as possible to be able to come to the box and work out properly with the rest of the people. At that time I still didn’t know that I would soon quit the conventional gym and become a full time Crossfitter!

What are your short term and long term CrossFit goals?
Short term:
Double-unders and pull ups –are the two major areas for improvement. I would like to finally take my back squat to 100kgs too…
I can do a pistol squat on a kettlebell, also can do an overhead pistol squat. I expect to be soon doing it all together, i.e. a kettlebell overhead pistol squat – sounds cool! ☺
Long term:
To compete. I have been to Divided We Fall 2012 and London Throwdown 2013, on both occasions as a spectator, and cannot wait for the day when I fully become a part of it. And that in my view will be the day I go to such events wearing a ‘competitor’ t-shirt!

What is your biggest accomplishment?
Hmmm…. Not sure. There are some little things, like when I managed to get one armed handstand for the first time; I remember I was pretty excited. Probably some others I can’t even remember because once I get one thing, I am already thinking about achieving another. But the proper biggest ones are yet to come!!!

What is your profession outside of CrossFit?
I don’t like this question. But one day, I will be answering it with a massive smile on my face.

What is your favorite/least favorite WOD/movement?
Favorite WOD:
I seem to particularly enjoy AMRAPs consisting of two or three movements, where one of them involves weightlifting, such as:
AMRAP 12 min
SDHP X10 40/30
Bar lateral jumping burpee x10
AMRAP 12 min
20 Boxjump 30/24
10 Push press 50/30

Oh, and I love TABATAs! Especially the ones with air squats in them. I would like to think they call me ‘squat queen’ for a reason 😉

Least favorite movement:
It’s not that I dislike it, but run would probably be my least favourite, especially longer ones as I get rather bored. Pull-ups crossed my mind too, it is a little frustrating that I cannot Rx when they come up in the WOD. Once I get them, I’m sure they will make it to my favourites list!

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Does it sound bad if I say there isn’t anything else I could think of that I could call my hobby?! If I could make time for another hobby, I would probably end up spending more time WODing…

Do you eat paleo or zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
No, I don’t. But I do eat pretty healthy, like no bread, no sugar (added to foods, only naturally occurring sugars, e.g. in fruit), no fizzy drinks, no take-aways. I normally prepare my meals myself, eat loads of veg, chicken, fish. Unlike paleo, I do pasta or rice from time to time and eat dairy (no milk though, but love cottage cheese).

Perhaps last Christmas, during the party (non CrossFitters), people made me do 250 air squats to the music and their count (and no rep’ing me)… It wouldn’t be that bad if not the fact that it was already well past midnight and I had to drink a penalty shot if I stopped or didn’t keep up with their count. I had 3 shots
